Scott Tavenner, founder of Savino
Launched in 2013, Savino is an easy-to-use three piece wine preservation system that allows users to enjoy their favorite wine days after they opened it. The heart of the system, an oxygen limiting float, is made from Eastman Tritan™ copolyester and food-grade silicon. The float creates a barrier between oxygen and the wine, automatically adjusting to different quantities of wine. The sealing top, which prevents spills, and carafe are made of high-grade flint glass. Savino is distinct from other wine preservation systems - it introduces the wine to a new environment rather than controlling the environment the wine is already in. Savino preserves a wines original qualities within a elegant and easy-to-use carafe.
To develop Savino, Scott Tavenner needed a food-safe material that was BPA-free, tough, resistant to discoloration, clear as glass, and dishwasher safe. Most importantly, he needed a material that would not impart any taste into the wine. He was also looking for a way to store different amounts of wine with each use.
Eastman Tritan copolyester was the perfect material for Savino, providing glass-like clarity without the weight, shatter-risk, and slick-wet handling that comes with traditional glass products. Tritan is a new-generation clear plastic with excellent durability and impact resistance. Unlike many plastics, Tritan is made without bisphenol-A (BPA) and it does not discolor or crack after repeated washing cycles. “We chose Tritian because of its durability and ability not to impart any taste into the wine,” says Scott.
Savino launched a Kickstarter campaign in July 2015 for their second product, The Shaker33. “Every cocktail shaker on the market seems to leak, get stuck together, is too hard to pour, or is just too messy, so we decided to make our own, and it is the best cocktail shaker I have ever used.” Their design continues to use Tritian BPA-free plastic that is dishwasher safe!
