Making the World Safer Through Design
Good design inspires.
That inspiration led John Caruso, associate professor of industrial design at Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, to suggest that the Rapid Deployment Flood Wall (RDFW) be entered into the International Design Excellence Award (IDEA) competition. “It will win a gold award,” Caruso said confidently.
Not only did the RDFW win a Gold IDEA in the Commercial & Industrial Products category in the 2010 competition cosponsored by Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and Fast Company magazine, it also won the Designer’s Choice award at the 2010 IDSA International Conference in Portland, Oregon. Designers attending the conference selected the RDFW as the best of all the 38 Gold IDEA winners.
