 Pebbles from Heaven

Ever walked along the beach and picked up a pebble? Ever thought about skimming it across the ocean, but decided at the last moment to slip it into your pocket instead? Ever wonder why that particular one out of a million finds a home?

Because that’s the pebble that felt just right.

That’s where Eastman's pebbles come from: a desire to produce a sample as pleasurable as it is practical. The pebbles showcase Eastman’s Tenite™ cellulosics in all its glory: sensual forms with inherent warmth and depth in colors, capturing an arc from water-like clarity to dark, sexy gloss. Some incorporate a seemingly everlasting fragrance. Developed with long-time customer, Rotuba, and Givaudan, an international fragrance house, the scented pebble leverages that most evocative of the senses, either singularly or in combination.

Most samples are boring. There’s no two ways about it, we ask an awful lot of our customers when we hand them a block of plastic, grin expectantly and say “Well, what do you think?” The hesitant smiles and noncommittal mumbles don’t exactly inspire confidence. With the pebbles we changed the name of the sampling game.

Now, isn’t it about time you get back to the beach?

“They show the benefits of the material in a way designers clearly understand. The thickness of the samples and how the designs use light to enhance the properties of the material is excellent.” – Victor Ermoli, Dean, School of Design, Savannah College of Art & Design

The pebbles are just right for turning over in the hand. Made in interlocking halves that clip together in a simple movement, they are irresistible. The sculpted shape on the face of each piece, reminiscent of the yin and yang symbols, works on a subliminal level to induce a sense of harmony and wholeness when the halves are joined. It’s a triumph of innovative design.” – Martin Ashcroft, Editor-in-Chief, The Manufacturer

“From an entire beach of pebbles, we select the ones that attract our attention. They are the pebbles we want.” – Marian Kelly, R&R Design, co-creator of the pebbles with Peter Phillips, Rodd Design
