For nearly 85 years Eastman has been producing materials that make the world turn. We're inventive and innovative and have seen a lot in our time, but occasionally we're still amazed by the skills that our customers demonstrate.

Italian plastics manufacturer Mazzucchelli is a fine example. The Lombardese company are past masters in the use of cellulosics. Exploiting the qualities of these materials has, over the years, required Mazzucchelli to develop both a keen sensitivity to the aesthetic values of its products and also an ability to manufacture with a very flexible process.

"The characteristics of cellulosics suit our entrepreneurial culture. It gives us a competitive edge on the market that other materials are unable to provide," explains Dr. Alessandro Fiocchi, general manager for Mazzucchelli. "Cellulosics lend themselves to the manufacture of products with a handcrafted look because they can imitate the nuances and colors of natural products better than other materials. This gives our designers a wide array of possibilities to work with and enables a whole series of original designs."

Mazzucchelli has an internal culture of innovation, though constantly rubbing shoulders with fashion houses, top industrial designers and textile manufacturers ensures that the flow of ideas remains fresh and contemporary. Since it diversified out of natural materials and into cellulosics in the first half of the last century the company has never looked back - and believes that cellulosics will continue to be a material in which innovators can unlock untapped potential. "Oh yes, I see a bright future for cellulosics," forecasts Dr. Fiocchi. "In my opinion they're more relevant now than ever before."
