Materials Overview

The KOR ONE hydration vessel has always been different from other reusable water bottles.

From its hinged cap to its elliptical shape that looks like an aquarium when filled with water, the KOR ONE is celebrated like a work of art on trendy website blogs like Gizmodo and publications ranging from Fast Company to The Oprah Magazine to the New York Times to Men’s Health.

The latest from KOR Water is a special edition “Water Advocate” series created to make a difference as well as continue the KOR ONE tradition of being different from anything else in the marketplace.

Each of the four colors in the “Water Advocate” series feature different nature-inspired images linked to non-profit organizations focused on water-related issues: Ocean Protection (Ice Blue); Watershed Protection (Sawgrass Green); Container Recycling (Sunrise Orange); and Global Water Crisis (Orchid Pink). KOR donates five percent of “Water Advocate” vessel sales (in addition to the one percent of total sales through 1% for the Planet) to these charities as part of its Thirst for Giving™ program.

The images are silkscreened on the exterior of the vessel made from Eastman Tritan™ copolyester.

We developed a custom tool that allows us to print the entire surface area of the KOR ONE,” says Eric Barnes, founder of KOR Water. “The elliptical design presented some printing challenges but Tritan™ was up to them all.”

KOR ONE is a showcase for the flexibility Tritan™ copolyester provides designers – from its thick-to-thin walls to its crystal-clear clarity to the precise snap of the sonically-welded hinge cap. You can now add “easy to print and decorate” to the growing list.

“We wanted the design to have crystal-like quality and values that connect emotionally with consumers,” says Kurt Botsai, vice president of innovation for RKS Design, which teamed with KOR Water to create KOR ONE. “The only way we could get the crystal quality at the bottom was by varying the wall thickness. Tritan™ does this much better than anything I’ve ever seen in polycarbonate.”

Tritan™ also meets KOR Water’s requirements for a BPA-free material. The toughness and durability of Tritan™ ensures a long-lasting product that you might say is “core” to the sustainability goals for KOR ONE.

“Sustainability is not just about sustainable materials,” says Barnes. “It’s about good design. Good design prompts people to keep something longer. Good design goes on the mantelpiece.”
