There is widespread debate about style over substance, and most of them occur in the retail sector. Substance is good and proper. But sometimes it doesn’t hurt to give substance a helping hand with a little style. That’s what Grendene is doing with its point-of-purchase display for Rider shoes made from vacuum-formed sheets of Eastman’s Spectar™ copolyester.
Grendene has enormous influence in the footwear market, producing 140 million pairs of shoes every year, spread across 20 locations. Grendene’s ability to constantly stay ahead of the curve has seen the company develop a global footprint, appearing in more than 85 countries.
Grendene used the originality of São Paulo, Brazil design firm, Plano Trio, to create eye-catching and UV-resistant displays to captivate its worldwide audience. The design delivered is a transparent, modular cube, stackable to create a space- efficient, eye-catching tower. In contradiction to the seeming fragility of the towers, Plano Trio opted for Spectar™ as the perfect material to ensure its creations have the durability to go the distance in the harsh world of retail – as well as the endurance to survive the ups and downs of worldwide shipping, without any breakage issues.
“The possibility of designing products with creative shapes, in a material that can be transparent and has great resistance to damage, is very rewarding," says Márcio Gonçalves, the Plano Trio designer. He also praises the malleability and concomitant docility of Spectar™ in the forming process. The result: style and substance in one durable display.
