From samba dancing to the swirling designs of Rio de Janeiro’s mosaic sidewalks, Brazil is always on the move – even when sitting down. Brazilian Designer Lars Diederichsen took inspiration from home when naming his new chair Giro – Portuguese for movement. It is one of only 300 products featured in the 2003 International Design Yearbook.
To produce the chair, Diederichsen cut and shaped sheets of Spectar™ copolyester into an anatomically-pleasing shell attached by four screws to a metal base. The use of Spectar™ allows the application of printed elements, increasing the number of design options.
In order to conceive a quality product with attractive design, it is not simply enough to be creative,” says Diederichsen. “It is necessary to look for and to explore innovative materials that may reach consumers with lower prices.”
